nCino Sans: Branded Typeface Design for nCino, Inc.
As nCino scaled into new markets across the globe, it became clear that the brand needed a proprietary typeface, one that could not only unify its visual identity across platforms and geographies, but also convey the distinct character of the company itself: visionary, clear-eyed, and human; all while not taking itself too seriously. In collaboration with my in-house design team and consultative help from type legend Charles Nix, we set out to design nCino Sans, a humanist geometric typeface engineered for versatility and legibility across four weights. From crisp small print in legal disclaimers to commanding bold headlines, every letterform was designed with clarity, friendliness, and performance in mind. The typeface was also developed to support international localization, ensuring consistency from Tokyo to Toronto.
Problem
nCino had long relied on off-the-shelf typefaces that didn’t reflect its maturing global identity or its unique position at the intersection of cloud banking, data intelligence, and customer-centric design. As the company grew, its brand began appearing across increasingly diverse media, from product interfaces, pitch decks, billboards, and long-form reports, often in multiple languages. A cohesive, recognizable type system was needed to enhance legibility, own a visual space, and tie all touchpoints together under one brand voice.
Solution
We designed nCino Sans as a cornerstone of the brand’s identity system: confident yet warm, highly legible, and adaptable across formats and languages. Its geometric core offers precision and modernity, while subtle humanist details add openness and personality. The four-weight family enables expressive flexibility, equally effective in dense product UIs and bold campaign headlines. Since its launch, nCino Sans has become an enduring part of the company’s brand language, reinforcing recognition across global markets and helping establish nCino not just as a bold software company, but as a brand with vision, warmth, and a distinctive voice 100% its own.
